When You’ve Seen the Son

Scripture: John 14:8–14

Day 1: Show Us the Father

Scripture“Philip said to him, ‘Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.’” (John 14:8)

Reflection: Philip’s request is sincere, but it reveals a common spiritual blindness—we often long for more, even when God has already revealed Himself. Like Philip, we might feel that seeing some external glory would finally secure our faith. But what we need isn’t more signs—it’s deeper sight. Jesus, standing right in front of Philip, was the full revelation of the Father.

Meditation: What areas of your life are you still asking God to “prove Himself”? What would change if you trusted that Jesus has already fully revealed the Father?

Prayer: Father, I confess that I often ask for more proof when You have already given me Your Son. Help me to see You in Him—to know You through His words, His life, His love. Give me eyes of faith to recognize what’s already been revealed.

Day 2: The Son Reveals the Father

Scripture“Whoever has seen Me has seen the Father.” (John 14:9)

Reflection: This is one of the most staggering statements Jesus ever made. If you want to know what God is like—look at Jesus. His gentleness, justice, truthfulness, power, and sacrificial love perfectly reflect the heart of the Father. We don’t serve a distant or hidden God. He has come near in Christ.

Meditation: Do you view Jesus as the clear image of the invisible God? What parts of His character help you understand and love the Father more?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for revealing the Father. You are not just a messenger—you are the exact imprint of His nature. Shape my heart through Your words and works so I may know and reflect the heart of God.

Day 3: Believe in the Works

Scripture“Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me, or else believe on account of the works themselves.” (John 14:11)

Reflection: Jesus calls us to believe in His identity—but He also points to His works as evidence. His miracles weren’t just displays of power; they were windows into the Father’s compassion and authority. And His ultimate work—the cross—reveals the Father’s justice and love perfectly.

Meditation: Where in your life do you struggle to believe? How do Jesus’ works—His miracles, His teaching, His death and resurrection—help you hold fast to faith?

Prayer: Jesus, help me to believe—not just in what You say, but in what You’ve done. Let Your works anchor my faith, and lead me to a deeper trust in who You are.

Day 4: Greater Works Than These

Scripture“Whoever believes in Me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.” (John 14:12)

Reflection: This promise is astonishing. Jesus isn’t just calling us to admire His work—He’s calling us to continue it. Not necessarily in power or spectacle, but in scope and impact. Through the Spirit, the Church is now the instrument through which the gospel spreads to the nations.

Meditation: Are you living with the expectation that God wants to work through you? What “greater works” might He be inviting you to step into?

Prayer: Father, thank You that the mission didn’t end with Jesus’ earthly ministry. You’ve invited me into Your redemptive work. Strengthen my faith to believe that You can use me for Your glory.

Day 5: Ask in My Name

Scripture“Whatever you ask in My name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” (John 14:13)

Reflection: Jesus promises that those who ask in His name—according to His will and purpose—will be heard. Prayer in Jesus’ name is not a religious phrase; it’s a heart aligned with His mission and surrendered to His glory. When we pray this way, we are drawn into the joy of seeing the Father glorified through the Son.

Meditation: What have your prayers revealed about your heart? Are they aligned with the purposes of Jesus? What would it look like to pray “in His name” this week?

Prayer: Jesus, teach me to pray in Your name—not for my glory, but for the Father’s. Shape my desires to match Yours, and give me confidence that You hear and respond when I pray according to Your will.
