Crowned with Glory: The Image of God and the Kingdom Mandate

Speaker:
Passage: Genesis 1:24–31

On Day Six of creation, everything changes. Genesis 1:24–31 brings us to the climax of God’s creative work. The earth is formed. The creatures are filled. But then, in a moment of divine deliberation, God declares: “Let us make man in our image.”

Humanity is not an accident of biology. We are not cosmic afterthoughts. We are not slaves created to relieve divine burdens. We are image bearers — crowned with dignity, blessed with purpose, and entrusted with dominion.

In this sermon, we explore what it means to be made in the image of God, how male and female reflect His design, what it means to exercise dominion and subdue the earth, and how the image marred by sin is restored in Christ — “the image of the invisible God” (Colossians 1:15).

Genesis does not merely tell us how we were made — it tells us who we are.
