Paradise Lost (Part 4)
The closing verses of Genesis 3 reveal the full consequences of humanity’s rebellion against God. Sin invades every sphere of life—marriage, motherhood, work, creation, and ultimately death itself. Adam and Eve are driven from Eden, the gates of paradise are shut, and cherubim with a flaming sword stand guard over the way to the tree of life.
Yet remarkably, judgment is not the final word.
Before God sends Adam and Eve out of the Garden, He graciously clothes their shame with garments He Himself provides. Even as paradise is lost, redemption has already begun. From the very beginning, Scripture points us to the greater Adam, Jesus Christ, who would bear the curse, wear the crown of thorns, enter death itself, and ultimately reopen the way into God’s presence forever.
In this expositional sermon through Genesis 3:16–24, we examine the consequences of the Fall, the hope of God’s covenant mercy, and the glorious anticipation of paradise restored through Christ alone.
In this message, you’ll discover:
- Why God cursed the ground—but never cursed Adam or Eve.
- How sin distorted God’s design for marriage and motherhood.
- Why work itself is not the curse—but painful labor is.
- The significance of “You are dust, and to dust you shall return.”
- Why God clothed Adam and Eve with garments of skin.
- The meaning of the cherubim and the flaming sword guarding Eden.
- How Genesis 3 ultimately points us to Jesus Christ, the greater Adam.
