The King Has Come: The Promised Messiah Arrives in History

In this Advent message, we zoom out and look at the Christmas story through the eyes of Matthew—the Gospel writer who most clearly shows Jesus as the long-promised King.

After four hundred years of silence between Malachi and Matthew, God breaks the silence not with an angelic choir or a royal coronation—but with a genealogy. Why? Because Matthew wants us to see what Israel had forgotten: God had never stopped working. He had never stopped keeping His promises. And now, the King had finally come.

In Matthew 1–2 we witness:

👉 The King’s Lineage — Jesus stands at the center of God’s covenant promises to Abraham and David.
👉 The King’s Conception — The virgin birth reveals a Messiah who is not merely human but God with us.
👉 The King’s Recognition — Gentile Magi travel hundreds of miles to worship Him, while Israel’s leaders remain indifferent.
👉 The King’s Protection — Herod’s rage, Egypt, Nazareth… every step fulfills prophecy and proves God sovereignly preserves His Messiah.

This message lifts your eyes above the sentimentality of Christmas to the sovereignty behind Christmas—showing how every detail of Matthew’s account reveals a God who keeps His promises with flawless precision.

If you’ve ever wondered whether God is really working in the silence…whether His promises still stand…whether His plan can be trusted…Matthew shouts the answer: The King has come. God keeps His Word. And He always will.
