The Greatest Prayer Ever Recorded (Part 2) | John 17:6–11a
As Jesus continues His High Priestly Prayer, He turns His gaze from the cross to His disciples. Though He is about to depart the world, He prays with unwavering confidence that His people—those given to Him by the Father—will be kept, guarded, and glorified.
This sermon unpacks John 17:6–11a, where Jesus reveals not only what He did for His disciples, but what He saw in them:
• 🧭 They were given to Him by the Father
• 🕊️ They received His Word and believed
• 🙏 He prayed not for the world, but for those who are His
• 🌟 He is glorified in them, even in their weakness
• ✝️ He is leaving, but the mission will carry on through them
This is not just a prayer of affection—it is a prayer of guardianship. Jesus intercedes for His people, not that they would escape suffering, but that they would be kept from falling away. He declares that they are the Father’s possession, His shared glory, and His ongoing mission in the world.
And just like the first disciples, we too are:
• Chosen by the Father
• Redeemed by the Son
• Empowered by the Spirit
• Kept by divine intercession
Christ’s departure doesn’t mean distance—it means deployment. The mission continues through those who belong to Him.
