Paradise Lost (Part 2) | Genesis 3:8–13

Speaker:
Passage: Genesis 3:8–13

After Adam and Eve sinned, everything changed.

The fellowship they once enjoyed with God was replaced by fear. The joy of His presence became dread. Rather than running to their Creator, they hid among the very trees He had made. Yet in one of the most gracious moments in all of Scripture, God did not abandon His fallen creatures—He came seeking them.

In Genesis 3:8–13, we witness God’s first pursuit of guilty sinners. As the Lord walks through the garden asking, “Where are you?”, He is not searching for information but lovingly drawing Adam out of hiding and calling him to confession. Tragically, instead of repentance, Adam blames. Eve blames. And the pattern of human sin that began in Eden continues to this very day.

This passage reminds us that our greatest problem is not merely guilt, shame, or fear—it is sin. Yet it also points us beyond the first Adam to the Last Adam, Jesus Christ, who did not shift the blame but willingly took it upon Himself at the cross so that guilty sinners might be forgiven and restored to God.

In this message, you’ll discover:

👉 Why Adam’s first instinct was to hide—and why ours is too.

👉 What God’s question, “Where are you?”, reveals about His grace toward sinners.

👉 Why guilt destroys fellowship and drives us away from God.

👉 How God’s questions expose sin in order to lead us to confession and repentance.

👉 Why blame-shifting has characterized humanity ever since Eden.

👉 How Jesus Christ, the Last Adam, took upon Himself the blame and judgment His people deserved.
