After the Flood: A New Beginning Under God’s Covenant Grace
The floodwaters have receded, but God’s redemptive plan has only just begun. In Genesis 8–9, Noah steps out into a world forever changed by God’s righteous judgment. Yet amid the silence of a devastated earth comes one of the most hope-filled declarations in all of Scripture: “But God remembered Noah.” God’s judgment had accomplished its holy purpose, but His covenant mercy had never failed. The same God who judged the world now begins to renew it according to His gracious promises.
In this message, we examine how God remembers His covenant people, recreates the world through His sovereign grace, receives Noah’s worship, establishes a new creation order, and inaugurates the Noahic Covenant with the rainbow as its enduring sign. Along the way, we discover that every sunrise, every season, and every rainbow still testify that our God is faithful and always keeps His Word.
Most importantly, this passage points us beyond Noah to Jesus Christ. The Noahic Covenant preserves creation, but only Christ’s New Covenant saves sinners. The God who remembered Noah has not forgotten His people today. His timing is perfect, His promises never fail, and His covenant faithfulness reaches its glorious fulfillment in the life, death, and resurrection of His Son.
