The Wicked World Before the Flood
faithfulness, the certainty of death because of sin, and His unwavering commitment to preserve the promised Seed through whom redemption would come.
As the narrative unfolds, we witness humanity multiplying across the earth while sin multiplies in every heart. The godly line becomes corrupted, God’s design for marriage is rejected, violence fills society, and the Lord Himself looks upon His creation and declares that “every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” Yet in the midst of overwhelming darkness, one glorious truth shines through: God’s grace. While judgment draws near, Noah finds favor in the eyes of the Lord, pointing us ultimately to Jesus Christβthe greater Noah, our only refuge from the righteous judgment of God.
Genesis 5β6 reminds us that the greatest problem facing humanity is not political, economic, educational, or social, but spiritual. Our greatest need is not self-improvement but regeneration. This passage calls us to take sin seriously, to distrust our own fallen hearts, to walk faithfully with God in an increasingly wicked world, and to flee to Christ alone, who bore God’s judgment so that all who trust in Him might receive grace instead of wrath.

The same God who judged the ancient world because of sin now offers mercy through His Son. The question is not whether we live in an increasingly wicked world, but whether we have found refuge in Jesus Christ before the final judgment comes. There is grace for every sinner who repents and believes, for outside of Christ there is no salvationβbut in Him there is complete forgiveness, perfect righteousness, and eternal life.
